I realized I wanted to try to make some cute Halloween treats for my coworkers this year. It turns out I got a little carried away. I made cupcakes, cookies, and rice crispy based treats. They were easy to make, delicious and a lot of fun so they are getting added to my recipes.
I told you I got carried away. I made these to focus on trying my hand at decorating so the recipes are very simple. I will mostly be explaining how to decorate the treats.
Ingredients:
- 1 box White Cake Mix and items on box
- 1 box Brownie Mix and items on box
- Orange food coloring
- 1 package Oreo's
- 1 package large Candy Eyes
- 1 bag of chocolate decorating frosting
- Cupcake baking cups
- Desired frosting
Cooking:
1. Prepare the cake mix and brownie mix in separate bowls
2. Add orange food coloring to the white mix until a Halloween Orange is achieved
3. Preheat oven according to the directions of the mixes
4. Pour brownie mix into the bottom third of each baking cup and fill the rest with the cake mix
5. Cook according to direction on mixes
6. Let cool completely
7. Frost cupcakes
8. Use 1 Oreo as the body of the bat, use the chocolate frosting to "glue" on candy eyes
9. Cut another Oreo into pieces to make the ears and the wings of the bat
10. Place ears into the body of the bat
11. Place Oreo body with ears into the frosting on top of the cupcake. Place the wings slightly behind the body in the frosting
12. Enjoy!
Repeat the cooking and frosting steps from above. To make the spiders:
1. Place Mini Reese's cups on Frosting
2. Pipe or draw legs with the chocolate frosting
3. Add eyes with chocolate frosting or food coloring
4. Enjoy!
For the spider cookies, I used the same decorating techniques with baked Toll-House cookie dough. The trick is to put on the Reese's long enough after they came out of the oven that they don't melt, but not too long that the cookie completely cools. If it does cool too much, you can "glue" the Reese's with the chocolate frosting.
