One of my favorite foods have to be empanadas. I'm a big fan of the Argentinian empanadas so of course when I decided to try this recipe, it had to be Argentinian style. This was the first time I have ever made dough so I request the help of my best friend who is a professional and has a lot of experience with dough. This recipe is a combination of one I found in Magazine and on laylita.com. These are great as appetizers if you make them a little smaller or as a meal meal if you make them larger. Because you are making the dough, you can customize it to the occasion. There are small changes to the filling depending on the region of the world they are made so feel free to explore!
Ingredients:
Dough-
- 3 cups Flour
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 1/2 Butter
- ~ 1 cup warm Milk
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Filling-
- 1 pound ground Beef
- 2 white Onions
- 1/2 cup Butter
- 2 tsp Paprika
- 2 tsp Chili Powder
- 1 tsp Oregano
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1 bunch Green Onion chopped
- 3 hard boiled Eggs chopped
- 1/4 cup Green Olives chopped
- 1 Egg separated
Cooking:
1. Preheat oven to 400°
2. To make the dough start by combining the flour and salt, add the butter and blend. Add the egg yolk and milk in small amounts.
3. Cover the dough and refrigerate for 60 minutes
4. Start making the beef filling while the dough is in the refrigerator. Brown beef and add seasonings, onions, butter, hard boiled eggs and olives
5. Remove the dough and roll out into circles and spoon the filling into dough, close the edges with rubbing egg along the edges and pinch shut. You can seal tighter by pressing the edges with a fork.
6. Brush with egg and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown
7. Serve with your favorite salsa
8. Enjoy!
